Show THOUSANDS SEE 500-MILE RACE New Snelling Speedway Opens With Fifteen Star Racers Flashing Around the Track. Fort Shellirtg. Minn., Sept. 4. Several Sev-eral hours before noon today the ;time set for tho btart of tho first 500 mile automobile race on the new Shelling Speedway, sltunt'od midway between Minneapolis and SL Paul thousands of spectators were in the stands eager to see sixteen racers flash around the two mile oval course for pri7cs aggregating $50,000. All, savo two of the drivers, had qualified their cars by circling the course at a speed of at least SO miles an hour, but speedway officials announced an-nounced that these two drivers, Old-field Old-field and Brown, would be permitted to participate without the usual preliminary pre-liminary test Drivers and mechanics ngreed that the track was in excellent condition and predicted that some records would fall. Because of his showing in the Chicago races and in the elimination elim-ination trials here, Resta was a favorite fav-orite today. Weather conditions were favorable.
