Show TOURING SEASON WELL UNDER WAY Notable Increase in Motor Travel Is Noticed This Year. j There has been a notable increase in automobile touring this year. Cars with number plates of many different states can be observed almost any day in cities located on main through roads, especially in front of leading hotels. There has been a larger relative re- I duction in prices of motor cars limn fn any previous 12 months, gasoline prices have- been cut to half what they j were only a few years ago, cost of I tires and accessories have been lowered, lower-ed, and cars require fewer costly re- pairs than formerly, all combining to make touring less expensive than ever j before. The European war and the California exposition have turned the thoughts of all American travelers to their own country, and the great waves of highway improvement that is sweeping from coast to coast have removed the one great drawback to the desire to see America first. State registrations throughout the country show the biggest increase in new car owners that has ever occurred occur-red in the year, and, as most of the new owners will want to enjoy to the utmost the delights of touring for the first time, the interstate movement of motor cars during the remaining summer sum-mer months will certainly exceed all expectations, contributing' to the prosperity pros-perity of every community where good roads exist as well as to the health, happiness and knowledge of tourists themselves. Road maps, driving directions, and interesting descriptions of favorite touring sections are liberally supplied free of cost, or at nominal expense through the co-operation of the daily newspapers with the National Automobile Auto-mobile Chamber of Commerce, the American Automobile association, the Automobile club of America and local automobile clubs, and by various tire companies, hotel associations and publishers pub-lishers of road maps and guide books These are available at almost every automobile clubhouse, supply store or garage. |
