Show SOCKER FOOTBALL FLAYED BY SCOTS' London, Sept 4. In spite of the war and many appeals in the House of Commons to prevent socker football foot-ball being played in Great Britain during dur-ing the coming season, the Scottish League has commenced its long schedule sched-ule of games. Tremendous interest aroused throughout Scotland, owing to the big hold socker has, and large crowds have turned out at all of the games. It had been clearly understood bv all the clubs that no player was to be signed on unless he was a worker for tho government, consequently tho whole of the two hundred and twenty players who took part in Saturday's games had completed a full week's work in connection with the war in some shape or form. Although the Scottish professionals aro more fortunate than the English players in respect of salaries, the con-aition con-aition biought about by the war has affected them to such an extent that from 25 to $50 a week, the fixed pav-ment pav-ment allowed by the Scottish Footba'll Association is now $5 a game, with ' the piospect of a bonus at the end of the season if profits allow it. which will bring their salaries up to $10 a |
