Show DVERUWD FACTORY QUKE Large additions more than equaling the size of the average American automobile au-tomobile plant are being started at the Overland factory in Toledo, Ohio According to officials of the company, com-pany, the additions to the factory alone will be equivalent to almost 23 acres of floor space. In addition to the factory extensions, there will be a new office building, G3x373 feet. One of the new factory structures will contain 20 acres of floor space and will be nearly three times thf size of the original Pope plant, when taken over by John N. Willys, president presi-dent of The Willys-Overland company. This building will be five stories high, 400 feet wide and 400 feet deep It will be used for final testing, body assembling and finishing and will contain con-tain S00 000 square feet of floor space. This building will contain even more floor space than the one recentlv completed for the Overland, which was 1000 feet long, 200 feet wide and three stories high, and said to be the largest single factory building In the world. The new assembling and finishing fin-ishing building will, upon its comple tion, give the Toledo plant the distinction dis-tinction of having two of the largest single factory buildings ever constructed. The enamelling department will have an extension put on It containing contain-ing 3500 square feet of floor space. This shop, without the new addition, is said to bo one of the largest and best equipped in the industry. The sixteen large, electrically heated ov-pns ov-pns have a capacity for turning out 140 tons of enameled produced every ten hours. It is declared by electrical electric-al engineers that the power consumed by these monster furnaces Ih fully as great as the power required for lighting light-ing a city larger than Toledo. The pattern shop will be enlarged bv a three-story, fire-proof addition, 83 feet wide by 100 feet long This new building will add 25,000 square feet of floor space to the department, j The dry kiln building will be in- j creased in size bv a two-story, firc- 3 nroof extension, 145x107 feet, contain- 1 inp 31,000 square feet of floor space The original Pone buildings facing j Central avenue will be rebuilt and en- I 'arged by 53,000 square feet of floor I space. I In addition to tho enlargements of the factory proper, the demand for I more office room has been such as to I require new office quarters and the old wooden buildings will give way jj to a new administration building. The I plans call for n seven-story fire-proof structure, made of steel and tile throughout. The new office quarters when completed will contain 1G5.000 square feet or practically rour acres of floor space. It is declared that this greater production pro-duction space has been made imperative impera-tive by the tremendous demand for the two new cars just announced by The Willys-Overland company. Although Al-though a big sale of these cars was predicted, the volume of orders received re-ceived has been greatly in excess of anything that could be foreseen Although Al-though the prpduction of the Overland company is larger than ever before in its history, and Is steadily increasing, increas-ing, the factory 'finds It impossible to gain on the orders tint keep pomins; In from all sections of the country.
