REBEL LEADER IS REPORTED DEAD Johannesburg, via London, Dec. 9, 3:42 a. m Brigadier Genera Christian Chris-tian Frederick Beyers, one of the leaders of the rebellion in the Union of South Africa, has been shot, It is officially announced, and is believed to be oead. General Beyers formerly was commandant com-mandant of the defense forces in the Union of South frica, but resigned last September because of his disapproval disap-proval of British action against the Germans in Africa He joined with General Christian De Wet in a re bollion, but his forces met with se-eral se-eral defeats. Recently General De Wet was captured after a long pursuit by a Union contingent Pretoria, via London. Dec 9. 4 26 8 m. An official statement issued here says it is believed that General Christian Beyers, the rebel leader, was drowned while endeavoring to cross the Vaal river.
