Show uj RAISING FUNDS FOR SUGAR FACTORY Salt Lako, Dec. 9. At an enthusiastic enthusi-astic and largely attended meeting of farmers and business men of the southern nm! western part of the county In South Jordan, last night, it was voted unanimously to raise the money and beets necessary for the es tablishment of a sugar beet factory in that section. A committee was appointed to trke charge or the mat-t.-r and obtain pledges to raise 6000 tons of beets and take subscriptions for money for the erection of tbo plnnt. Samuel H. Howard of Rlverton. representing rep-resenting the Utah Lake Irrigation company, declared that the company would donate forty acres of land and a water right for the f acton' Bite. The proposition that a packing house B8 an adjunct to the beet gugar factory fac-tory be erected was favorably received receiv-ed and practically every person signified sig-nified a willingness to subscribe for some of the stock. Another meeting meet-ing will be held at the new high school In Sandy within the next few days when the report of the committee commit-tee will be heard j W MoHenry of Murray acted as chairman of the meeting and in a brief address explained that to insure the success of the factory the beet croo of the county must be doubled at least. He said that 3000 tons of beets were being raised In bait Lake countv annually and sent to outside factories The question, be declared, was not so much as o whether the farmers could and would raise the beets as it waB whether the residents of the district cared to provide pro-vide the money for the factory or let the work be done by outside capital The vote was unanimous tn favor of obtaining local capital by meens of subscriptions. Wheedon. president of the South Jordan Commercial club; Professor Peterson nnd Superintendent Superintend-ent Rvan of the Jordan high school, and Joseph Hibbard, president of the West Jordan Commercial club.
