Show OREMlOAD NOW REACHES LEHI Lehi, March 13- Declaring that Utah county was on the verge of j the greatest period or growth In its history, W. C. Orem, president of tho new Salt Lake & Utah interurban, made an address hero tonight that was greeted with cheer after cheer-Residents cheer-Residents of Salt Lake and all the towns between there and Lehi came hero tonight to attend a public celebration cele-bration of the completion of the road to this point. "The present population of Utah county is about 30,000," said President Presi-dent Orem in his address. "In ten years it will be three times 30.000. Salt Lake City will sprend until its limits reach the point of the mountain, moun-tain, and this valley will be at Its very door." v President Orem said tho road would bo electrified by May 15 and that cars would be running through to Provo by June 1. Until i that time gasoline cars will be used botween Salt Lako and American 1 Fork. The Salt Lake party, including President Orem, Governor Spry, Secretary Sec-retary Farrell of thc Commercial club and other prominent citizens, arrived arriv-ed hero In the special about 8 o'clock tliis evening. Delegations were picked pick-ed up along thc lino at Bennlon, Tay-lorsvlllo, Tay-lorsvlllo, Rlvcrton, South Jordan and West Jordan. A large crowd of Lehi residents, headed by the Lehi brass band, greeted greet-ed tho arrival of tho visitors. They were conducted to the tabornaclc, which was crowded to capacity with more than 1500 persons. After a musical mu-sical number by tho band, ono of the best in thc state, a program of enthusiastic en-thusiastic speeches was started. S. W. Ross, president of the Commercial Com-mercial club of Lehi, Introduced President Pres-ident James II. Clark ot the Lchl stake. President Clark delivered the Invocation. He was followed, by Professor Pro-fessor Karl Hopkins, whom Mr. Ross introduced as the chairman of the evening. After some brief remarks about tho history making ovent occasioned by tho advent of the electric line, Chairman Hopkins iSntroduccd thc president of thc new road, W. C. Orem. Mr. Orem was greeted with enthusiasm that has seldom been equaled here. Governor Spry followed President Orem. Ho told the people of Utah valley of the valuo ho expected tho new road to bo, and told them alHO of the quiet way In which the Orems had worked on their project. He remarked re-marked that they were so quiet and unassuming that many In Salt Lako did not even know the road was being be-ing built. He complimented the enterprise en-terprise of Orem & Co., and offered thorn his congratulations. A. J. Evans, Judge Henry I. Moore and Will G. Farrell followed. Each one made reference to the development develop-ment which should follow the construction con-struction of the interurban. In addition to the band music, vocal solos were rendered by J. H. Hicks and Miss Lucile Bennion. Mrs. Abraham Abra-ham Anderson played an organ solo. Following the meeting a dance was given In a near-by hall. The visitors left for home In their special train shortly after midnight on |
