Show oo C0T.TII DON THE GRADE ON 25TH . STREET HILL ' The question of changing the form of pavement on Twenty-fifth street, between Washington and Adams avenues, ave-nues, is taking definite form and it Is quite certain that property owners will petition the city board of commissioners com-missioners to modify the plaus and specifications s6 as to provide for not more than ten feet " of stone blocks from the curb on either side or the street. It is said that the property owners in that section are practically unanimous for the change. Another matter of considerable importance im-portance regarding the paving in this particular district is the changing of the street grade and it Is receiving earnest consideration today by the prbperty owners. It is said that a petition will be presented to the board of commissioners, a majority of the property owners favoring the plan. The business interests .on that street 'are of the opinion that it should be a business thoroughfare and that, in order to make it such, tho grade should be materially lowered. low-ered. Last year a petition was circulated cir-culated to lower the grade of the street ten feet at the Intersection of Adams avenue, but there were many protests and the project was drop, ped. At this time, however, many ot those, who opposed the change last year are favorable to its inauguration inaugura-tion and the sentiment is-so strong that, it is said, the board of commissioners commis-sioners will be asked to make the change. The property owners say that perhaps per-haps It would not be advisable to cut the grade ten feet at Adams avenue, but that by reducing it even five or six feet, It would make a great difference dif-ference to the street as a business thoroughfare and would not damage tho residence property. It Is also contended con-tended that to lower the grade 5 or 6 feet, the heavy haul for loaded teams would be obviated and that it would not bo necessary to use stone blocks on the surface over any part of the street. Contractor O'Neill states that he can see "no reason why the plans for the paving could not be modified, It the property owners desire the change, and that he would endeavor to adjust his plane to the change. He 1b pushing the excavating work rapidly, rap-idly, however, and he says if the plans are changed he should bo advised ad-vised at an early time, as he would not care to change his. plans after surfacing begins. |
