Show DOUBLE TRACKING OF RIVER ADVOCATED Washington, March 14. Before the senate commerce committee today, considering means of preventing Mis-I Mis-I slsslppl floods, S. D. Lako of Memphis, Mem-phis, Tenn, proposed a "double tracking" track-ing" of the river. He would have the government dig a channel from Cairo to tho gulf, 110 yards wide and twelve feet dope, three miles distant from the present river bed. To acquire land for that purpose, .Mr. Lake declared, de-clared, would cost $18,000,000. He gave no estimate of th cost of construction con-struction of Buch a canal. |
