Show WATCH THE LEGISLATURE They wanted your votes a while ago. They talked talk-ed to you very earnestly about their devotion to commonwealth com-monwealth and crucial necessity of electing them rather than the other fellows, says the Saturday Evening Post. Well, there they are now a Senate and a House of Representatives with a short session before them, in which some business of real importance will press for consideration. Will they go at it with an eye tothe commonweal common-weal and a sense of high trust with which you have invested them? Will they try to be economical of time and money? Will they subordinate politics of personal, factional, partisan and grand stand sorts to genuine and urgent public business? Watch them, with their campaign promises to retrench and not create new offices or impose new burdens fresh in mind. Usually you do not watch them. They function in twilight, quite often of a disappointing character. Watch them this time; See how they expedite or delay important business; what their attitude is toward economical handling of your money; how much time they give to their purely selfish affair or jockeying for political advantage. ad-vantage. We hope that your watching will be pleasurably rewarded. But if they disappoint you, know it and remember it. |
