Show STOP THE NUISANCE OF STRAY ANIMALS: The News has no desire to be too critical, it would rather ' boost than to knock. Our oli- factory nerves are not overly sensitive, and we like animals, especially horses. But not- withstanding these facts. we.. believe also in system a place for everything and everything in Its place. We submit for the consideration of a long suffer- ing public and the city authorl- tios: is the place for stray- horses and their inevitable droppings upon the sidewalks of our main business street, or any other sidewalk, for that matter? Fertilizer is a great thing for the Boil of this valley, horses are necessary for the labor of the community in spite of the low cost of horseless carriages, but they have a place and they should be kept in it. Now, this is the point; There is a city ordinance, a good one, to regulate the stray animal nuisance. We are informed that the city trustees have ordered it enforced. Regardless of or- ders, however, loose animals are allowed to roam the streets and become a nuisance. A . " few days since, one of these '. stray horses that has been loaf- ing about in the vicinity of the center of the city from time to which the memory of man reacheth not, stood on the side- walk of Main street in front of a place of business, and did his worst. He calmly stood , .S,"'"?, while a lady walked out into the street in order to get by the animal. He was sur- prised and looked with an ex- pression of wonder and re- proach when driven from his loafing place. It has been objected that it is too expensive for the city to take care of these animals. The objection is not well taken for the same ordinance pro- vides a way for the city to dis- pose of the strays and get all expenses returned. The News hopes that the matter will be taken up by the proper authorities and the side-' walks, streets and citizens pro- tected by the abatement of this notorious nuisance. |
