Show o NEED OF VIGILANCE If the new legislature has not at least a few good, strong members, to act as balance wheels, the radical law tinkers will startt he legislative machinery machin-ery to grinding out some new statutes that will block progress in this young and ambitious state for years to come. The teqt of a proposed law to regulate all kinds of business excepting peanut stands and a few minor concerns which was published in the daily papers this week, is a fair sample. It proposes three commissioners, each to draw a salary, fixed at $3,-000 $3,-000 higher than the salary of the governor, to have the power to take the business of large and small concerns entirely out of the hands of the owners. Of course, there is little chance for the measure to pass in its present form. But there is need of con-; con-; stant vigilance upon the part of the level headed j members to keep such legislation from slipping j through. |
