Show MANY ACCIDENTS MAR WINTER FUN The long period of cold weather has made the sport of coasting very popular in Milford the past two weeks or more. The slopes back of the city furnish ideal facilities for ice-clad slides. However, the fun &nd it is sure fun has been interrupted inter-rupted this week by several painful accidents to the young people, who are the chief participants .though the envy of many a grown-up. Winnie Fernley was one of three on a sled that became uncontrollable and collided with a telephone pole at the corner of Stoddard avenue and Fourth streets, where the course makes a rather short turn. (This same pole has caused disaster to a number of sled loads and there is no doubt that the young folks would be unanimous in a petition to the city fathers to have the thing removed.) remov-ed.) Winnie Fernley's arm was broken in two places and she will have to stay out of school for several seve-ral weeks. Another unfortunate was the little son of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Hilliary. Little Jack was spilled against the same mean-old-thing-of-a-pole and was badly bruised bruis-ed and mussed up. One sled load of youngsters called on the Ramsey family very precipatately when their sled refused to make the turn and smashed against the side door of the residence. The News is highly in favor of this coasting sport and the editor confesses to being one of the envious envi-ous grownups, but the courses should he chosen for safety and should be properly regulated to avoid danger, not only to the merry coasters but also to the innocent pedest rians . or bystanders. |
