Show BOUND OVER TO SUPERIOR COURT Tony Poulson. bartender at the Milford Bar was on trial before Justice Herbert Nichols yesterday on a charge of sell- ing liquor to an Indian, one of Uncle Sam's wards from the reservation, near St. George. The witness who swore to the complaint is O. A. Blaine, a government deputy special of- (leer, who for the past thir- teen months has been employ- ed by the government exclu- sively upon detecting violations of the law against selling liquor to Indians. He came to Utah from Riverside. California last week. Mr. Blaine went direct to Cedar City and there was given a letter by Supt. Wagner of the reservation to a young buck named Paul Jake. In company with Mr. Blaine. Jake came to Milford last Monday and was given the money to purchase liquor. He went from the depot, according to the testimony of the officers, to the saloon and without any trouble secured a bottle in so short a time as to surprise the officers The bottle was marked by the officers and was identified at the trial and placed in evi- dence. The only break in the testimony seemed to be when Jake failed to identify the bar- tender who sat in the defend- ant's chair in the court room. Jake was not confident that he could identify the bartender but caused considerable amuse- ment when he pointe d out one of the spectators and stat- cd that lie Jielieved that was the accused. County Attorney Russell Parsons was assisted in the Prosetvut ion by Attorney Wood- bury. Sam Cine defended Mr. Paulson. The. defendant was bound over to the superior court under bonds of $250, which he gave. |
