Show Millionaire Ktratton Dead. William S. Stratlon, the multi-millionaire of Colorado Springs, Colo., owner of the famous Independence mine in the Cripple Creek district, Is. dead after an Illness of several mouths. In April, 1801, having seen some'speci-mens some'speci-mens of gold ore from Cripple Creek district that Impressed him favorably, he went to that camp to prospect. On the 3rd of July, after weeks of fruitless prospecting, a man who agreed to grub take him having disappointed him, Stratlon decided to go to Cripple Creek and stake out a claim ou his own account. ac-count. He rode the thlrty-uve miles from Colorado Springs to the camp on horschuck, and ou the morning of the 4th of July, 1891, staked out the Independence Inde-pendence and Wushlngton claims, in honor of the day and the father of his country. The Independence gave original origi-nal assays of 8380 to the Kin, and iu 1803 he leased und bonded the Wushlngton Wush-lngton for 880,000. The Independence yielded Strntton millions, and in lbOS was sold by him for 810,000,000, he retaining, re-taining, however, u very considerable Interest even after retaining the sum of money.
