Show John J. Roothoff honored on 80th birthday PAKOWAN - John J. Roothoff was honored by his children and many friends at an Open House held Sunday June 22 to celebrate his 80th birthday. The open house was held at his son, Dirk Roothoffs home in Granger. Mr. Roothoff was born in the Netherlands in 1895 and came to the United States at the age of 21. He served three missions for the LDS Church, two to the Netherlands and one to California. He married Maria Veenendaal Dec. 14, 1921 in the Salt Lake Temple. She died on April 4, 1972 in Parowan. The Roothoffs had three children, John J. of San Diego, Calif., Dirk, Granger and Mrs. Hal Orton, Parowan. They were all present at the open house. Mr. Roothoff also has 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Other members of the family that traveled to Salt Lake for the birthday celebration were Jill and Lisa Orton, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Orton, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Orton, and Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Robinson and their families. A very enjoyable time was had with all the family together. Brother Roothoff will remain in Granger for another week to be able to attend a missionary farewell for his grandson Mark who is leaving for a mission in Holland. |
