Show Water senice charges detailed by Cedar City Changes in the water service charges for residents of Cedar City were clarified at the meeting of the Cedar City Council held Thursday evening It was announced that, beginning with the fall quarter minimum use rates would change from $10 to $12. It was explained that for many people this would actually be a decrease in their water bill because the previous minimum w as based on 30,000 gallons usage. The new minimum will be 40. 000 gallons Larger water bills will be felt only by those people who use. consistently, under the minimum and large users who regularly use 40,000 to one million or more per quarter. For those families who use the full minimum amount of ;Sumi gallons, the present cost per loon gallons is 34 cents. On the new schedule loot) gallons cost will be 30 cents. i The installation of Jack ' Whiting as a member of the City Council left a vacancy in his position as a member of the Cedar City Library Board. In his place the Council authorized Ed Hahne to be appointed to the Library Board for a three year term. Mr. Hahne's background and experience will benefit the continued operation of the public library. The question of continued membership of Cedar City Corporation in the Five County Association of Gcvernmonts was tabled pending the outcome of the petition now circulating asking that the County Commission Com-mission call a public hearing to consider their withdrawal action. If that public hearing is held, the City will join as a co -sponsor. Cedar City joined with the other sponsors of the soil conservation con-servation service Iron County Watershed Agreement asking for withdrawal so that the U. S. Army Corp of Engineers can move in to the County to Ix'gin a comprehensive flood control plan on Coal Creek. Since final results will involve congressional action, it is anticipated that about 3-year's 3-year's time will be consumed in the program. Members of the staff of the Cedar City Alcohol Rehabilitation Center in Cedar City report that State management is concerned about the continued (H) percent non-use and vacancy rate at the Center and because of the large number of people with alcohol dependency depen-dency problems are not using the help available consideration is being given to closing the facility. Members of the City Council were asked to consider the loss and to assist in referring to the Center those people who need help with their alcohol problems. The Council asked that "No Parking" signs be erected on the west side of Third West Street Ix'tween Center and Harding effective July 1, 1975. The move is intended to relieve congestion and remove safety hazards around the Junior High School prior to the beginning of a new school year. In a similar motion, the Council asked that signs be erected prohibiting the use of motorized vehicles (mini bikes and motorcycles) on the New-Canyon New-Canyon Park and further, that the City Police Department issue citations for careless use of motor bikes both at the New-Canyon New-Canyon Park and in and around the City Baseball Park area. Two subdivision final plats were approved. The first was a small development adjacent to 400 East and 400 South. The petition for approval was in behalf of Ha Corry. The second subdivision approval was in behalf of Frank Nichols and is located East of the new Canyon Park and south of Highway U-14. The Council also called for a public hearing to consider a request for a zone change from R-l (Residential) to 1-1 (In- dustrial) in an area west of the airport road and north of U-56 which would include Perry Mill and Cabinet, Unevca Livestodk, vacant land owned by Cedar Livestock Association and Lanell Lunt. The hearing is called for July 17, 1975. A hearing to consider the vacating of a street within the Cedar Crest special improvement im-provement district was called for July 17, 1975. In adopting the new budget for the coming fiscal year, the Council confirmed a proposal which will be welcome news to all those businesses in the City which have a sales volume more than $300,000. It is the intent of the Council to adopt a change in the business license ordinance which will set a maximum figure in the $350 range. It will be the intent to make the ordinance change effective January 1, 1976. There will be no change in the $25.00 minimum. |
