Show Virginia Stephenson to present vocal salute to 'Armed Forces' SUSC's Richard Heath, percussionist; per-cussionist; and Karen Brad-shaw, Brad-shaw, fife. Carsen Henry of SUSC will assist with the lighting. Also cooperating in the production have been the Cedar City Kiwanis Club, SUSC Music Depatment, World War I Commander, Lorin Miles, Bicentennial Committee, National Guard unit of Cedar City and the U. S. Army Reserve Unit of Cedar City. . Art design will be provided by Allison Bushnell, Bonita Turn- She was with the Salt Lake City Symphonic Choir. Mrs. Stephenson was a soloist for four years with the Roanoke Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Mo. and also was a soloist at the Temple B'Nai Jehudah (Jewish Synagogue) in Kansas City. Currently she is teaching private vocal instruction at SUSC and at her residence. She is married to Dr. John E. Stephenson and they have two sons. An hour-long "Salute to the Armed Forces of America" will be presented in music Saturday, Nov. 8, by Virginia Stephenson, vocalist. The production, which is free to the public and sponsored by the Cedar City Bicentennial Committee, will be held at the Recital Hall on the Southern Utah State College Campus at 8 p.m. Mrs. Stephenson will be presenting her tribute through music consisting of some 40 war and patriotic American songs. "I have chosen the month of November for this program for two main reasons," Mrs. Stephenson stated. They are first, it is the month of Thanksgiving and Thankfulness and; second, it is the month of the traditional Veteran's Day observance. In her program Mrs. Stephenson hopes to pay special tribute to the many members of the Armed Forces of America "for without these men and women who have given of their lives and service, we the American People, might well have not been about to celebrate this bicentennial birthday of our nation," she suggests. Signing is a unifying force, it is pointed out. Not only in war times has it bolstered morale and kept spirits high, but, now--in the year of our bicentennial-we must keep that same surge of patritism flowing. Assisting Mrs. Stephenson will be assisted by Marty Jane Seaman, pianist; David Nyman, SUSC Prof, of Music; the SUSC Brass Quintet, Earl Bruning, baugh and Julie White. Mrs. Stephenson is a Utah native. She began her singing career at age 3 and has been actively participating throughout her life. She graduated from Delta High School and was an SUSC Graduate in Vocal Pedagogy. VIRGINIA STEPHENSON |
