Karla Esplin receives honors in National Essay Contest Mrs. Lynn Esplin of Cedar City, and Sally is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Forest Hunter, also of Cedar City. Teachers in the English Department at CHS who have worked with the girls are Neola Brown, Jeanne Pensis, Fern Amend, Harold Shirley and Douglas G. Bonzo, Department Chairman. states and American schools abroad. The number of possible winners for each state is keyed to state population. Karla is the daughter of Mr. and Karla Esplin has been cited for an outstanding writing performance. per-formance. The National Council of Teachers of English has named her a winner of the 1975 NCTE Achievement Award in Writing. Sally Hunter also represented Cedar High School. The NTCE writing contest is held annually. Over 7,000 students were nominated by their English teachers for the Achievement Awards in Writing. Each nominee submitted a sample of their best writing and an impromptu essay. These compositions were evaluated by state judging teams of both high school and college English teachers.
