Maruis Cloward, left, Southern Utah Area Representative and LaVerne Parmley, President of the Utah Lung Association, ask for public support of the annual Christmas Seal Campaign. Christmas Seal contributions help control Resperatory Disease Christmas Seal cc tributions fight emphysema, tuberculosis and air pollution. That's what Maruis Cloward of Cedar City says. Mrs. Cloward is a member of the Board of Directors of the Utah Lung Association and is heading Christmas Seal Campaign Cam-paign publicity in Southern Utah. "The Utah Lung Association Board of Directors in recent years has visited this area and is sensitive to its needs," she said. Mrs. Cloward told of the Christmas Seal services the Utah Lung Association has brought to the area to meet those needs. "The Christmas Seal Respiratory Disease Self-Care Classes have been established since 1973 in Cedar City to help lung disease patients. The classes offer ten hours of instruction in-struction for the patient and partner. They learn ways to open air passageways and cleanse the lungs so that more air can be moved in and out of the lungs," she said. "The Utah Lung Association has provided for training of community health nurses in the care of pulmonary disease patients. Often lung disease victims are home bound and can receive help no other way." "Additional Christmas Seal contributions would provide funds for an Emphysema Club in our community. The Club provides an educational and social experience for lung disease victims. The members meet bi-monthly to learn about their disease from health professionals. The program if established would be free of charge for the patients, Mrs. Cloward explained. "The Christmas Seal Campaign Cam-paign is the most important fund raising activity for the Utah Lung Association. I hope to bring the Christmas Seal message to the people of my community so that more of them will understand un-derstand what the Utah Lung Association does. It is a vital organization that has served Utah for over 59 years and is worthy of generous contributions." |
