Show Parowan Rams lose hard fought battle to North Summit 30-6 I'AHOWAN - The Parowan Hams ran head on into a charged up North Summit football team in Coalville Friday afternoon losing the quarter-final contest to the Braves 30-6. The Parowan boys gave it all they had but it just wasn't enough as the Braves continually bombarded the Ram defense with a devastating running attack at-tack which was led by Kent Pace, an unheralded runner in the Brave organization. One has to ponder just what this North Summit squad will do to opponents next year as many of the Coalville kids are underclassmen. un-derclassmen. After the first quarter had ended in a scoreless duel in which Mr. Pace had picked up 75 yards on the ground the battered Parowan defense weakened and Pace drove m from the three yard line for the score. The Rams narrowly missed a scoring opportunity minutes later when Jon Robinson recovered a fumble giving the Parowan squad the ball at the North Summit 27 yard line. With running backs Curtis Mitchell and Steve Johnson punching for some tough yardage yar-dage and Quarterback Donald I Inlet hitting end Ted Cooke on a nine yard pass the Rams drove to the Brave 10 yard line. That's where it ended however, as the Braves intercepted a Parowan pass at the four yard line. With only 1:44 left in the first half brave Quarterback Chad Boyer connected on an 18 yard aerial toss to Larry McQueen to give North Summit a 14-0 half-time half-time edge. The Braves wasted little time striking twice in the third stanza. Boyer bootlegged the ball in from the seven yard line and Brent Crittendon added another TD soon after on a five yard romp. The only Parowan score came on a 36 yard pass from Hulet to end Tom Robinson midway into the fourth quarter. Robinson made a fantastic catch on the ball pulling it down among a bevy of Brave defenders. North Summit's next stop is Richfield when the Braves take on the Region Eight champion Kanab Cowboys. The Cowboys thumped North Sevier 42-0 in another quarterfinal game. By comparative scores the Brave-Cowboy confrontation, which is being billed as the championship game, is rated as a tossup but the more seasoned Kanab team should be given a slight edge in the semi-final matchup. Beaver, Region Eight's runner-up team, traveled to Sun-nyside Sun-nyside to completely dominate East Carbon 39-0 and will now take on Monticello on a neutral field. Monticello edged past South Summit 8-6 in Kamas Friday to enter the semi-finals. |
