Show Parowan City Council considers assorted problems PAROWAN - Parowan airport is being considered as a location for an extensive glider operation according to Mr. Bill Delida Paroair Manager plans are also being discussed for a charter service there. The Parowan area has been tested and is ideally suited for flying gliders or sail planes. The city is discussing the possibility of improving water and power service to the airport to help with the development of the area. Mayor Kendall Gurr met with Utah's Governor Rampton and Dixie Leavitt last week to discuss the airport and the access the city wishes to have to the property. While in Salt Lake Mayor Gurr also met with the officials in charge of the Utah Symphony Orchestra and a tentative date has been set for the group to give a concert in Parowan in connection with the Bi-Centennial next year. Parowan City Chief of police met with the council to discuss the hiring of a secretary to assist with the records for the city and county police departments. The County Commission and Parowan City have agreed to go ahead with this on a temporary basis. He or she will be paid according to the work load. Doris Benson attended the meeting as a representative of the Tri-H Club. The club sponsors the Easter Egg hunt each year on the church square. They requested additional funds from the city to help with expenses as the price of eggs has doubled since last year. The city agreed to raise the amount they five, and individuals are asked to help fund the annual event by contributing con-tributing at the local stores. Parowan has purchased a new ladder truck for use by the Electric Department, Paragonah is considering buying the old truck for use there. Jay Moore has been appointed as a chairman for a clean up drive in the city. He will organize block chairman and spearhead an extensive drive to really clean up Parowan City streets and lots this coming spring and summer. Letters have been received from citizens in the N.E. corner of town complaining of dusty and muddy streets in their area, and the city agreed to work on these with whatever funds are available. |
