Show Drip better than flood! With dwindling water supplies over much of the United States, it was natural that much experimentation would take place to see how little water and what methods of watering would give plants maximum growth. Comes now the verdict. A new method called "drip" or "trickle" irrigation. Drip or trickle irrigation has been used successfully in Israel, Australia, Africa and other arid places . . . including includ-ing California. Drip irrigation consists of the slow application of water to the soil by way of long plastic tubes into which holes have been drilled. These holes, spaced strategically along the tubes, deliver only one to two gallons of water per hour. The holes match the location of the trees or plants. Efficiency of the sytem is about 90 to 95 compared to 35 to 50 by conventional con-ventional methods. |
