Show Parowan proposes bond election Mr. and Mrs. John Lovric attended the council meeting, Mr. Lovric, representing the Chamber of Commerce, requested that two culverts in town be signed (posts with reflectors) reflec-tors) as they are quite narrow--the corner of first east and first south and the corner of sixth west and second south. The city plans to widen both in the future but has agreed to sign them now. Mr. Lovric also was there to represent his business, the Pit Stop, to report that trucks are using his roadway to turn around and trade drivers-especially drivers-especially UPS. He requested approval from the city for them to continue to use the area just north of his business. The city agreed to allow the drivers the use of easements in time for the deadline. Much of the property is BLM or Forest Service and requires environmental en-vironmental impact study. The City is still proceeding with applications to the state board of water resources for money which is interest free. The council also discussed with Mr. Rhodes the proposed curb and gutter on the dead end street north of the high school which the school district has requested engineering information on. Also, the street north of Fads (third north) between main and first east was discussed, with engineering work and estimates to be completed. Dan Harris attended the meeting and stated that the sewer pump back station at the Harris subdivision has been remodeled to a larger system. After inspection by the city electrician, the city has agreed to take over maintenance of the system. The council approved proceeding with protesting water rights that encroach on city water rights. An ordinance closing city streets at the proposed Little League ball park area was passed, and the council approved going ahead with a bond election on the proposed improvements at the swimming pool and park. Also the city approved executing an agreement with the Department of Transportation in a proposed sidewalk im- i provement on west second ' south. The DOT will fund 12,000 dollars towards the project. that area. Bud Rhodes, representing Bulloch Brother Engineering Firm, met with the council to present a preliminary engineering report on the proposed water line improvement in Parowan canyon. His early estimate of total cost is $405,900, which includes engineering fees. He went on to state that grant funds were not available through the county because the city was unable to get the necessary rieht-of-way |
