Show l" - I ' V .. lJifilp to o'd sell 00 1 Still in need of space for storage and office expansion, the Cedar City Council will tour facilities available at the presently "vacant" Junior Hieh Building, with the council promising to make a final decision concerning leasing of the property. In Thursday's meeting, the council heard a report from Mike Embley on the space at the 300 West facility, and how it could be utilized, but not enough information was available to make a decision. City Manager Mike Embley also reported to the council a recent Department of Community Affairs and . grant request had been rejected. He said $6,000 was requested for updating and upgrading of zoning ordinances and building construction and development construction standards for future development activity in Cedar Citv. Request for grants through the Department of Community Afairs, Embley said, totaled approximately $200,000 with only $41,600 available for actual funding. Bids were opened as part of council meeting to determine the contractor for asphalt and street oiling during the coming construction season. A bid from Western Rock Products was the lone bid and was accepted by the council. The bid calls for asphalt laid for $12.93 per ton and tack coating distributed for $13.95 per square yard.-Council yard.-Council members indicated they anticipated an-ticipated approximately $50,000 of business with Western Rock Products in asphalt related business. The hiring of two new police officers, replacing Ken Blackner and Vic Middleton, was approved by the council. The two men bring the total of police officers to 11. Due to several beer license applications ap-plications in recent weeks and two new applications Thursday, the council cautioned all license holders they must comply with Utah State and local statutes concerning sales of alcoholic beverages. The council listed as statutes: sales clarks must be over 21 years of age, there must be strict ob- servance of closing hours and no sales ' to minors. Class "A" licenses were approved for Whiting Bros, and Stocks Oil Company service stations. |
