Show IPP clings to Salt Wash site for delay under the alternative alter-native siting effort, Fackrell concluded: "We are hopeful that the alternative site study can be accomplished within the next few months and that the results will be conclusive". Participants in the Project are 23 Utah Municipalities including Parowan, and the California cities of Anaheim, Burbank, Glendale, Los Angeles, Pasadena and Riverside. The Intermountain Power Project (IPP) has pledged cooperation with the Department of Interior and the State of Utah in alternative siting studies for a 3,000 MW coal-fueled power plant proposed for South Central Utah, Joseph C. Fackrell, IPP President, announced this week. IPP Project personnel would be made available to respond to Federal and State siting recommendations and the Project had already set meetings with Utah Bureau of Land Management officials, of-ficials, Fackrell said. In his letter to Secretary Andrus, Fackrell reaffirmed that IPP still believes that "the Salt Wash (proposed) site is the most environmentally-sound site available, and consequently, we will continue to actively pursue the development of the Project at the proposed site". He further stated "We have completed a thorough regional site-selection process, which considered, among other items, water availability, coal availability, potential environmental en-vironmental impacts, including in-cluding air quality impacts in national parks and other areas possessing significant environmental values, aesthetics, and overall project costs". Fackrell expressed the concern, "that the Department Depart-ment of Interior may have already made a judgement, without complete information in-formation available and prior to the issuance of an Environmental Impact Statement, as to the acceptability ac-ceptability of the proposed Salt Wash site. We, of course, realize the sensitivity sen-sitivity of proposing a site in an area adjacent to national parks. However, we hope that you will agree that continuation of the environmental en-vironmental process is needed to gain the kind of information which must be evaluated prior to a final decision on the Project". In addition, he expressed concern that funds from the participants for additional studies may not be available. Referring to the potential |
