Show Southern Utah Folklife Festival opens atZion Canyon September 8 ticipate with the Gifford Family making quilts or with other residents making rugs, lace or netting. See how a rawhide cane chair is made or how to whittle figures out of seeds and fruit pits. Old time music will be played by the grandchildren of the original Pioneer Haywire Band. The Enterprise En-terprise String Band and the St. George Martial Band (a fife and drum band) will also perform tunes from pioneer Utah. The National Public Radio will be taping the entire Festival for a two hour national broadcast later in the year. Join in celebrating the traditional skills that provided for the survival of our forbcarers and the folk arts which treated them to a bit of entertainment and luxury. Watch and listen to wart charmers, storytellers, Pioneer quilters, and southern Piute basket makers. Early time food preparation, singing, dancing, children's games plus many more folk arts will be demonstrated. This southern Utah Folklife Festival will be happening on September 8, 9 and 10 at Zion National Park from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Two evening performances, September 9 and 10, starting at 8 p.m. will include Piute and Pioneer music, dance and drama at the Dixie Amphitheater in Springdale. Admission to Zion National Park is $2.00 per car - free for senior citizens and children. Admission to the Dixie Amphitheater in evening is $2.00 adults, $1.00 children, and $5.00 family price. Sample a cup of Brigham Tea or a bowl of Dixie Salad -complete only with pomegranate seeds, or bread, butter and preserves, prepared by Pioneer descendants. Participate in the oral history of the area while George Q. Cannon cracks pecans and tells his stories. Follow the water witchers using a copper wire or a willow. Observe and par- |
