All products which have been tested have either had negative test results, been found to be so low in PCB levels as not to constitute a significant health risk or have been destroyed because of excessive PCB levels. "There is no health risk from PCB's to Utahns eating eggs or poultry," according to Dr. James O. Mason, State Health Director. Dr. Mason indicated that the preliminary results from the evaluation of blood samples taken from residents in Franklin, Idaho are encouraging. Very low blood levels of PCB have been found in all residents, including those who had ingested large quantites of eggs with PCB contamination. con-tamination. The FDA has established acceptable background levels for PCB in blood samples. Blood sampled in Idaho fell within these accepted ac-cepted background levels. These blood levels are thought by experts at the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Atlanta, Georgia, not to constitute a significant ' health risk. |
