"By simply using their activity cards, SUSC students can check materials out of any other member libraries. Then , when they're finished with the material, it can be returned to the SUSC library and rerouted , by the library staff, back to the lending library." "This not only enables students to have access to many libraries, but saves them a great deal of time and money in returning the reference material," he added. Amy Owen, director of technical services at the Utah State Library, is the executive secretary of the UCLC. She is the first executive secretary to be appointed by the council. Southern Utah State College students can check out books and reference materials from any other college or university in the styate, a reference aid made possible through SUSC's membership in the Utah College Library Council. The SUSC library has participated in UCLC activities ac-tivities since the counncil was formed in 1971, A. Thomas Challis, director of the SUSC library, said. "Basically, the UCLC was formed to improve access to library services by students, faculties, and communities, and to develop and implement im-plement cooperative programs," Challis said. "It is funded by Utah academic libraries." UCLC is involved primarily, Challis said, with projects such as cooperative purchasing, microfilm catalog exchange, the pooling of resources, and creation of a shuttle service between campuses to |
