Show Red men lose play-off battle to Grizzlies Cedar High School Red-men Red-men ended the 1979 football season Saturday afternoon suffering a 25-7 loss at the hands of Logan in Logan. It was' an interregional contest, the first round of play, in the state Class 3A playoff series. Despite the loss the Redmen really "scared the pants off" the Logan Grizzliesthe state defending defen-ding champions. Logan entered the playoff series as the first place team from their region by virtue of a 18-17 victory over Davis in mid-week. They were highly favored to romp over the Redmen who came into the state playoffs as the fourth place team from Region Six. If anyone had the inclination in-clination to read any of the state papers it had to be a "piece of cake" for the Grizzlies-just a small obstacle on their way to the quarterfinals to be held this week. , But the Redmen were more than respectable in their losing effort as they scrambled for a score in the first quarter of play and with the extra point booted by Kevin Webb held a 7-0 lead at the end of the period. The score came on a 14-yard 14-yard toss from quarterback Jack Carter to his favorite receiver this year, Scott Henderson. Logan came bouncing back in the second quarter of play and pushed in a score of their own, but when the extra point attempt failed they found themselves still trailing at halftime by a margin of one-7-6. It was a great first half for the Redmen as they gave the larger-both physically and in numbers-Logan squad. In the second half of play the Grizzlies put that manpower to work and simply wore down the Redmen as they finally took the lead and then went on for the victory. "We really gave them all they could ask for," commented com-mented Principal Venule Matheson. "We are as proud as we can be of the Redmen this season. They got off to a slow start, came on strong toward the last of the year earning a berth in the 3 A state playoffs." |
