Show Hunter in Macy Parade Paul Lavalle, renowned conductor, instrumentalist, and former musical director at Radio City Music Hall has directed McDonald's Ail-American Ail-American High School Band for thirteen years. He is joined this year by assistant director, Paul Jeffrey, saxophonist and associate music professor at Livingston College at Rutgers University. Though a traditional Thanksgiving Day with turkey and the trimmings is standard fare foi most people, Cedar City's Bardley G. Hunter is looking forward to a unique holiday celebration this year. A' student at Cedar City High School, Bradley will appear in the nationally-televised nationally-televised Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City as part of McDonald's Ail-American High School Band. Selected to play the Trombone, ,, ' Bradley will represent Utah ' in the Band, which consists of 102 high school musicians - two from each state and the District of Columbia. Each year, band directors across the U.S. nominate their top students for membership in the Ail-American Ail-American Band. Final selections of the 102 band members - a new group each year - are made by Paul Lavalle, director of the Band, and a committee of music educators. Selection for the Band is based on each student's honors, musical acheivements and band director's recommendations. recom-mendations. Formed in 1967 to recognize outstanding high school ' musicians, McDonald's Mc-Donald's All American High School Band is noted for its versatility with concert, Jazz and marching music. One of the highlights of Bradley's New York trip will be a Thanksgiving eve concert that the Band will perform at Carnegie Hall: Featured guest artist at the concert will be jazz great, Lionel Hampton. In December, Bradley will fly to Pasadena, California to perform with the Band in the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year's Day. All expenses for the Band are paid for by McDonald's Corporation. |
