Show "Classic of the Season" pits the CHS Re dm en against A. F. Cavemen The strength of ihe Cedar High School Redmen basketball team, now 13 and 0 on the season, will be given it's strongest test of the year Saturday when the Redmen host the invading Cavemen of American Fork. The battle is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. at the Cedar High School gymnasium and should be one of the strongest indicators of comparative strengths of the Class 3A clubs in the state this year. American Fork has a couple of losses on their records, but all to Class 4A schools. They are undefeated in 3A competition and in Region VI action. This past week the Cavemen defeated Springville handily, 53-39 and the game was scouted by Coach Dick Hobbs of the Red-men. Red-men. He reports that the Cavemen are one of the better balanced clubs he has seen this year. He ranked their defense as their strongest point and believes that the American Fork Club will be the toughest opponent of the season. The Cavemen have good balance. They have one big man in the middle, good outside out-side shooting and speed. "If they put it all together they could be really tough," Hobbs notes. The Redmen, on the other hand, have proven their worth with their impressive record this season. Coach Dick Hobbs has one of the mast prolific scoring combinations com-binations in the state and the test Saturday will be their toughest, The Cavemen play a tough man to man press from start to finish and will be applying ap-plying pressure against the Redmen from the opening buzzer. In preparation for the game the Redmen tuned up by demolishing South Sevier 97-56 last Saturday. In that contest all five starters for the Redmen were in double figures led by Steve Hair with 22. Close behind was Brad Blackner with 18, followed by Brent Foley and Charles Judd with 14 each and Kim Neilson with 13. Coach Hobbs cleared his bench in that contest as the Redmen doubled their visitors in the first quarter leading 20-10. In that contest the Redmen pumped in 42 fieldgoals shooting at over a 50 percent mark from the field. Saturday's battle is destined to be one of the classics of the season. |
