Show Icy Roads cause rash of Utah Highway accidents On January 24 a storm hit southern Utah at V a.m., causing highway conditions to be slick and dangerous. Four accidents occurred on that day, stated EIRoy Mason, Trooper, with the Highway Patrol. The first was at 7:40 a.m. when George D. Corich, Tustin, Ca. skidded off the road and rolled his car over about 16 miles north of Paragonah. Highway Patrol Trooper Joe Bensen, Beaver, investigated the wreckage. The second occurred at 8:45 a.m. when driver Stella Pingel, Las Vegas skidded on slick roads 11 miles north of Paragonah. She was thrown from the vehicle, breaking her clavicle and arm, taken to Valley View Medical Center and then to Dr. Neal Capel, St. George, stated EIRoy Mason, investigating State Trooper for the highway patrol. Her husband and other passengers were not injured. The third accident happened at 9:45 a.m., 17 miles south of Cedar City in a vehicle driven by Mary Hall, Silversprings, Maryland. She was traveling about 10 mph on the inside lane of the Interstate, In-terstate, one truck passed her on the right, another turned to miss her, and the third truck hit her car in the rear. Both . vehicles went off the road, causing about $2,000 in damages. Roger Bagley, trooper for the Highway Patrol investigated the accident and cited Mary Hall for impeding traffic. The last wreckage appearing on January 24 occurred at 9:20 p.m. on Cedar Canyon, because of a slick spot on the ice, seven miles east of Cedar City on U14. Michael Dell Van DeVanter, 18, Delta, skidded on a curve and ran into a tree causing minor injuries to himself. The other passenger was not injured.
