Show ACCIDENT CLAIMS LIFE. Citizens inspect wreckage of trucks that collided on a county dirt road, west of Cedar City, the morning of January 24. Katherine C. Smith, 53, Beryl, was killed in an accident resulting from a head-on collision Saturday, January 24th. Two pick-up trucks collided at 10:15 a.m. on Antelope. Road, a dirt county road 20 miles west of Cedar City. EIRoy Mason, Highway Patrol Trooper and John R. Williams, Iron County Deputy Sheriff investigated in-vestigated the accident. The trucks were traveling in opposite directions on the dirt road when the collision occurred. Each truck was traveling at about 40 mph, and view was obstructed because of the land-road land-road structure and snow storm conditions, Trooper Mason stated. Driver, Katherine C. Smith, was taken to Valley View Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead seven hours after arrival. A passenger in her truck, Verna Cox, 62 was also itaken to the hospital, where she is presently in serious condition. The driver of the other truck, Kent William Adams, Cedar City was also taken to the hospital, and treated for minor injuries and released. The passenger in his car, Dale Herschi, Cedar City was admitted ad-mitted to Dixie Memorial Hospital, St. George and was treated for multiple fractures in his legs and hips. Another passenger, J.S. Adams, Cedar City was treated and released from Medical Center. r- |
