Show Power Group hold Meeting " A"meetmgof "the" Southwest South-west Utah Cooperative Power Federation, on Sat., Feb. 17 at 9 a. m. in the Cedar City offices will be held with all mayors from Iron, Kane and Washington Counties, and Fredonia, Ariz, in attendance. The group has invited the Utah Assistant Attorney General, Jim Barker, to attend the meeting. The SWUCF has been organized and incorporated. The group is interested in purchasing the entire electrical power system now owned by CPNational and setting up a home owned and controlled municipal electric utility ststem. The Southwest Utah Power Agency has been formed under the Interlocal Cooperative Laws to finance the possible purchase. In a letter to the Attorney General, Robert Hansen, Carl Palmer, who is Chairman of the SWUCPF's Board of Directors states, "We have reason to believe that Utah Power and Light, and possibly others, are laying the groundwork to purchase this electric system prior to approval from the customers who are now and will be served. As you know, such a purchase must be approved by the Public "Service Commission. Com-mission. With respect to the money spent, plans laid, organizations established, and time expended by these communities in setting up their own electic utility system, we request that any purchase attempt by an outside utility be prevented until these customers have expressed, by common consent, their preference for a private or municipal utility to serve them." |
