Show SUSC trackmen enter final tuneup meet Southern Utah State College thinclads travel to Ogden Saturday Sat-urday for a meet with Weber State and Montana State as they make final preparations for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Ath-letic Conference divisional meet next week at Adams State. Welber State has easily beaten beat-en both SUSC and MS in previous pre-vious meets so the battle for the T-Birds will be for second place. SUSC and MS were sep-erated sep-erated by only four points in a duel meet earlier in the year in Cedar City. Weber's strength was shown this past week as they raced to an easy first place victory in the SUSC Invitational. The Wildcats picked up 11 of the 18 first places to easily outdistance out-distance the Thunderbirds in second place. Weber collected 1.13 points, SUSC came in with 77 followed by College of Eastern Utah with HYi, Snow 33 Vi and Dixie 18. Three Southern Utah school records fell in the meet as the T-Birds showed an improvement improve-ment in times and distances. Chuck Anderson captured a first place and a school re cord in the triple jump with a leap of 45 ft. 5 inches. The old record was held by1 Buzz Richardson. Carl Cochrane continued to push his shot put record out as he made a toss of 47 feet 7 inches. Robert Nash captured the third record of the day in the steeple-chase. In his first time to run the event Nash clipped almost eight seconds off the L. Dee Shakespear record as he clocked a 10:39.9 timing, j Other top performances of the day saw Kim Matheson getting his best time of the season in the high hurdles with a 15 flat time and a first place. Bill Norton zipped to a 10.1 in the 100 and 22.75 in the 220 and two first places in the meet. Roger Cowan continued to be consistent as he leaped 6-5 in the high jump and the other first place for SUSC. Robert Cometford and Ben Davidson just missed first places as they got nipped at the wire in the 440 intermediate intermed-iate hurdles and 880, respectively. |
