Show Interior committee to hold hearings in ICanab Rep. Sherman P. Lloyd, R-Utah, R-Utah, announced Thursday that the House Interior Sub-jommittee Sub-jommittee on Parks and Recreation Re-creation will hold its field hearings on the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Sat-jrday, Sat-jrday, May 27, at the Kanab .Ugh School in Kanab. At the same time, the Utahn revealed that he is modifying the bill he Introduced in the House in March in the hope f getting legislation through his Congress. Lloyd said his amended bill vould include more land in he recreation area administered adminis-tered by the National Park Service. His original proposal limited the recreation area to he waters of Lake Powell itself. it-self. His amended bill would also al-so authorize the Utah State Department of Highways to construct a two-lane scenic road from Glen Canyon City to Bullfrog Easin, and would create a Canyon Country National Na-tional Conservation Area for lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management in the area. Both of those provisions pro-visions were contained in his earlier bill, but the conservation conserva-tion area may bc expanded to include both the Kaiparowits Plateau and the Henry Mountains Moun-tains area in the new proposal, pro-posal, he said. Lloyd revealed the changes in a constituent newsletter to be mailed to over 40,000 residents resi-dents of the 2nd Congressional District. |
