Show Clair Morris appointed Superintendent! of Schools Final selection wa9 made by the board following personal interviews with several candidates can-didates Saturday evening. v - - Dr. Clair Morris, director of Student Personnel Services at Southern Utah State College, has been apointod Superintendent Superinten-dent of the Iron County School District, it s announced by Oscar Os-car J, llulet, president of the board of education. Dr. Morris will succeed Dr. Joe Ileidhead, who has accepted ac-cepted the superlntendcny of the Nebo School District in Central Utah. According to llulet Dr. Morris Mor-ris signed a two-year contract with the district which will be effective July 1 this year. In the meantime Dr. Morris will fill the position on a part time basis while he completes his ibligations with Southern Utah State College. Dr. Morris is familiar with the Iron County School District Dis-trict policy and procedures, having served in various capacities ca-pacities in the district, inducing in-ducing principal of the Cedar City High School. He began his educational career as a sixth grade teacher in the Cedar East Elementary School. Since that time he has served "s principal of the Par. owan Elementary, Principal of the Cedar South Elementary, assistant principal and principal princi-pal of the Cedar High School, all in the Iron County system. In addition he has taught in the Utah State University Edith Bowan Laboratory School, was a principal of the Brigham Young University Elementary El-ementary Laboratory School and was an assistant director of the BYU Laboratory Schools and Director of the Thomas House curriculum writing project pro-ject for the development of independent in-dependent study guides in the area of English, social science, science and mathematics. A native of Iron County, he was born in Parowan and at-tended at-tended Parowan High School. He received his B. Ad-ministration. 1 Dr. Morris has had a number num-ber of his articles on education published and has been ac tive in educational circles as a consultant, including the Kettering Foundation. Currently he is a member of the Cedar City Lions Club. Ha Is a former member of the Rotary Ro-tary Club and of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and also al-so served two years on the College of Southern Utah Board of Trustees. He ls an active member of the LDS Church. Dr. MWris Is married to the former Suzanne Cardon of Cedar Ce-dar City and they have four children, two daughters, Jennifer, Jen-nifer, 16 and Karen 14, and two sons, Robert, 10 and Paul,, 4. |
