Show School Building Costs Rapped By Tax Foundation It was reported today that $131,550 was "squandered" in building eight elementary schools during the 1965-66 school year; enough to build a ninth school housing 400 children chil-dren with what was wasted. This information was released re-leased today by the Utah Taxpayers Tax-payers Association in its quarterly quar-terly publication, "The Utah Taxpayer". i The study based Its comparisons compar-isons and findings on state school office figures for average aver-age per pupil elementary construction con-struction costs of $1,067, estimated esti-mated capacities and general contract costs. By using this yardstick, the report revealed that Alpine's Lindon Elementary School per pupil costs were $1,215 and overspent $62,160. Alpine's Shelley Elementary School costs were $1,407 per child and overspent $143,220. the Moss Elementary in Granite wasted i $66,240 and the Farnsworth, $98,340. Jordan's Bella Vista overspent $30,210 and East Midvale $10,800. The East Tooele Too-ele Elementary "squandered" $20,580, asserted the report. On the other hand, Granite's Sandberg Elementary per pupil pu-pil construction costs were only on-ly $983. The "tax watchdog organization" organi-zation" said that these eight schools were chosen at random ran-dom from the files of the State Department of Public Instruction. Instruc-tion. The report concluded by urging urg-ing school boards to use this $1,067 state average figure when planning future elementary elemen-tary school construction. |
