Show Census on Fallout Moving Ahead In Iron County Eight residents of Iron County are among the approximately 250 Utah residents hired by the U. S. Bureau of Census as interviewers for the Home Fallout Protection Survey which the Bureau is conducting con-ducting throughout the state for the Utah Civil Defense Agency. Frances H. Wilmer, Director of the Census Bureau Regional Offices Of-fices in Denver, Colo., announces that the following persons have been selected to call at homes in. Iron, .County-;-, Gladys W. Isom, Wilma B. Pace, Betrude Reese, Barbara Ann McDonnell, Connie Burns, Alta Porter, and Cordon Walker, all of Cedar City; Melva Barton, Paragonah, and Iva Harrison, Har-rison, New Castle. Each of the census interviewers will wear a red, white, and blue identification badge which is the official credential. It bears the signature and certifies that the interviewer is authorized to perform per-form the duties, and as such, has sworn to keep confidential all census information given. Only a few questions will be asked: How many people usually live in your household? How many floors does your house have? What type of roof? Do you have a basement or cellar under your house? If you do, what are the basement walls made of? And what is the height of each basement wall above the outside ground level? Facts about a single house will be processed at the Census Bureau. An electronic computer will calculate the protection against fallout the house pro-, vides. j This information will be mail-, ed back directly to the house- j holder, together with a Civil Defense booklet. Those with basements will receive, for their consideration, a booklet describing describ-ing suggested methods for increasing in-creasing the amount of protection. protec-tion. Those without basements will receive another booklet with general gen-eral information on protection measures that can be taken by individuals and families. The computer's report on amount of fallout protection in i your home is confidential between bet-ween you and the Census Bureau, and is provided without direct cost to you, Wilmer stated. |
