Corry A memorial shelf in honor , of former Cedar City librarian Lillian B. Corry, has been estab-, estab-, lished at the Cedar City Public Library. An initial presentation to begin the memorial section was made recently by Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Corry in honor of Mr. Corry's mother. Mrs. Corry's books, including many rare and out of print volumes, vol-umes, were included in the original orig-inal collection. They included books on art, genealogy, history, his-tory, and literature. An invitation for friends to also contribute to the memorial has been extended by the family and library. Mrs. Corry served as head librarian lib-rarian at the Cedar City Library for one and one-half decades from the late 1920's and early 30's. Prior to that time she was head of the children's section of the library. She was instrumental in the introduction of the Dewey decimal de-cimal classification and relative index system, which is used in all accredited libraries. She was I assisted in that project by the ! late Eugene Hardy. Her enthusiasm for the lib- j rary and its function was evid- enced in her practice of spending spend-ing her vacations, at her own ' expense, in attending library courses. She worked diligently to increase in-crease the library budget, en-1 large book and magazine collec-1 tions, and to extend the library service throughout the county. ' Mrs. Corry was also an advocate of making library services avail-; able at more convenient hours' for the public's use. j |
