Show T-Birds to Enter Pasadena Meet This Week The College of Southern Utah Thunderbirds will enter the An- nual Pasadena Invitational basketball bas-ketball tournament to be staged in tne city Thursday, Friday and . Saturday. ) An eight team affair, the action 1 will get underway today and the T-Birds are slated to meet California Cali-fornia Poly in one of the opening open-ing rounds of play at 4 p. m. Mountain Standard Time. All games will be broadcast j over radio station KSUB. The T-Birds, win or lose will I participate in three games over j the three-day period. I Coach Boyd Adams has singled out Cal. Poly and Whittier Col-1 lege as the two strongest teams in the tournament. He indicated 1 that a win in the opener for the T-Birds could very well move them into a good spot for the championship game Saturday evening. Tne Thunderbirds are hoping that an offense change to what Coach Adams terms a "narrow ; double post," will increase the scoring potential of the team. 1 The system has the effect of moving the three big men on the ; forward wall under the basket to better utilise their height. j j Coach Adams will take nine j men to California for the tourna- j ment activities, leaving only j forward Douglas Peterson behind. J i Peterson is recovering from re-1 cent surgery and is expected to j be back with the club next week. J Lou Christensen, who has been j on the ailing list, is back in ac- tion this week and was looking i good in practice sessions early this week, the coach indicated. ! 5 All nine men are expected to -1 (Continued on Page Five) j GSU Enters Tourney (Continued from Page Four) see action in the three-day af- fair but starters in the opening j game are expected to be John ' Carey at center, Larry Moore and Tom Means at forward and Bob Cuff and Paul West at the guard spots. I Cuff found his shooting eye in last week's encounter for the T-Birels T-Birels and he could prove to be the stimulating force for the T-Birds T-Birds in this event. Lou Christensen and Fred Es-plin Es-plin are also slated for a lot of action in relieving the big men on the forward wall in Coach Adams's new offensive punch. |
