Drop Moapa Game I The Cedar High School Redmen got off to a fast start in the 1966-67 basketball race last Wednesday Wed-nesday evening when they took on North Sevier and posted a rather easy victory, 62 to 46. The first road trip of the year, however, was not quite so productive pro-ductive as Friday night. The Redmen suffered a loss at the hands of Moapa, 53 to 47. Against North Sevier the Red-men Red-men controlled the game, setting the pace from the outset. Friday night, however, the Moapa crew came up with a steady full court press that the Redmen were not able to handle this early in the season. Wynn lsom at the forward spot was the leading scorer for Coach Richard Hobbs against North Sevier, Sev-ier, picking up 17 points. He was followed by Robin Reid with 11 and Dale Hatch came off the bench at the guard spot to break a close contest with some fine outside shooting over the zone to add nine points to the cause. The Redmen led throughout and controlled the game parti-culary parti-culary in the rebounding department de-partment led by Mike Pratt, lsom, and Neuman Duncan. Against Moapa the Redmen had the height advantage but were pressed into too many court errors by the full-court press and had the initiative taken away from them. This week Coach Hobb's Red-men Red-men will play only one game as they sUiy at home to meet the Beaver Beavers of the Millard Division of Region Eight Saturday Satur-day at 8 p. m. In action last week the Beavers lost an opening game encounter j to the Kanab Cowboys and this! will be one of the first sounding j boards for the Dixie Division 1 race. j The Redmen must win eonvinc- j ingly over Beaver to feel that : they are equal to or better than the Cowboys. j Coach Hobbs and his crew will be working out prior to this once on-ce unfer in hopes of first of all coping with the full-court press and imprivin; the agility and ball handling of the team as a I whole. |
