Show Forest Timber Official Appointment Made I The transfer and promotion of Mark H. Johannesen, ranger onl the Hughes Creek district of the Salmon National Forest, to the supervisor's office of the Dixie I National Forest to fill the timber tim-ber staff position made vacant by the sudden death of R. Boyd ; Leonard on April 14, was announced an-nounced by Supervisor Albert Al-bertson Al-bertson today. Mr. Johannesen was born in Salt Lake City where he received receiv-ed his elementary and high school education. He Jater attended at-tended the school of forestry and range managament at the Utah State Agriculural College at Logan, Lo-gan, where he spent three years. Following this he continued his forestry education at the University Univer-sity of Idaho at Moscow. He graduated grad-uated from this institution in 19-18 with a B. S. degree In forestry. for-estry. Prior to graduation he worked on the Wasatch Forest on insect control and as a fire protection' protec-tion' aid. He also served on the Payette National Forest In Idaho In various capacities, including fire lookout, fire control aid, maintenance supervisor and as camp boss on fires. He served in the Army from Feb. 3, 1953 to Aug. 5, 1953. He was appointed Forester on the Payette National Forest Jifly 12, 1948, and served as assistant ranger for severaJ months. From April 1, 1951 until Jan. 30, 1955, he had charge of the western Idaho timber survey project pro-ject and also gave considerable leadership to timber survey techniques tech-niques on other national forests in southern Idaho. He has served as ranger on the Hughes Creek district of the Salmon National Forest since Jan. 30, 19S5. With this broad and varied background of experience and training. Mr. Johannesen comes to the Dixie Forest well quail-field quail-field to handle the heavy timber tim-ber staff position here which "7: now third In Region Four of the Forest Service in amount of annual an-nual cut of timber, Supervisoi Albertson said.
