Show Cedar City, High School to Play Host to Over 1500 Students At Region Six Music Festival; Parade of Bands to Climax Day One of the most colorful and certainly one of the most entertaining events on the agenda of Region Six activities for the year is the Music Festival which will be staged in Cedar City Saturday, May 5. High school and junior high school music groups including in-cluding bands, orchestras and vocal groups will converge on the city early Saturday morning for a full day of activity. activi-ty. Registration of the nearly 1500 students who will participate par-ticipate will take place at the Cedar City High School and events are slated to get under way promptly at 8:30 a. m. Saturday. Sat-urday. Nine high schools of the region re-gion plus five junior high schools will participate In the festivities. From the north will come students stu-dents rom Delta High, Millard High of Fillmore, Beaver High, Milford High and Parowan High schools. From the south wiU come Valley High of Orderville. I Kanab High, Hurricane High and 1 Dixie College plus Kanab Junior High and Woodward Junior High 1 of St. George. Both the Cedar High and the Cedar Junior High will participate. Three Auditoriums Three auditoriums will be in use by the various groups during the entire morning hours and Eugene Holland, in charge of the event and director of the Cedar High School and Junior High School bands, extended an invitation invi-tation to the public to attend these events. One group of bands will use the public school auditorium at 8:30 a. m.' Included in this group and the time of appearance will be the following: 8:30, Parowan High; 9:15, Hurricane High; 10, Milford High; 11:45, Valley High, and 11:30, Beaver High. 1 p. m.. Cedar Junior High; 1:45, Delta High, and 2:30, Millard High. Another group of bands plus the two participating orchestras from Cedar City, under the direc tlon of Prof. Roy L. Halversen, will participate at the C S U auditorium au-ditorium as follows: 8:30, Cedar Jr. H. orchestra; 9, Cedar H. orchestra; or-chestra; 10, Dixie College band; 11. Cedar High band; 1 p. m., Millard High band; 1:40. Woodward Wood-ward Junior High band; 2:30, Beaver Bea-ver Junior High, and at 3, Kanab Junior High band. Vocal Auditions All vocal groups, including the boys' chorused, girls' choruses and mixed choruses will be heard In the old C S U auditorium auditor-ium in what is known as the science building, as follows: 9 a. m., Woodward Jr. boys; 9:10, Woodward Jr. girls; 9:30, Wood- . ward Jr. mixed; 9:35, Cedar Jr. chorus; 9:45. Cedar High boys; 9:55, Cedar High girls; 10:05, Cedar Ce-dar High mixed; 10:20, Parowan mixed, 10:35, Delta High choir; 10:45, Delta High girls; 10:55. Delta High boys; 11:10, Dixie College; 11:36, Millard mixed; 11:54. MiUard girls; 1 p. m., Beaver Bea-ver Jr. High; 1:20, Beaver High chorus; 1:25, Valley High chorus; i:40, Hurricane m capclia Kuacu; 1:55, Milford mixed, and 2:05, Milford Girls. Adjudlcaters for the various events, will be members of the music staff of Weber College in Ogden. Dr. Clair Johnson, head of the department will adjucate the bands with Max Dalby the orchestras and Glen Hansen the vocal numbers. Marching Band Contest Another highly colorful event (Continued on Back Page) REGION SIX MUSIC FESTIVAL (Continued bom Front Pago) t will be the marching contest and the finale of the entire day, a parade of bands down Cedar City's Main Street. At 3:30 p.m. bands will be Judged on the parking lot just north of the CSU fieldhouse. This Judging will continue through 4:50. At 4:45 bands will assemble at the College to begin the parade. The parade will travel from 200 South street and 300 West, east to Main street then turn north and continue down Main street to the city park where bands will be dismissed. Each band, orchestra and vocal group will be rated by the Judges and score sheets sent back to he schools at a later date witn ratings and remarks. For the first time the Cedar City High School Band will participate in the Class A class. The only other band in this class will be Dixie College. Others are rated from B to D on the junior high levels. The Junior High School Band, however, participates in the class C group along with some of the high schools. |
