Show 4 PAT GARDNER v v SANDRA WOOD ,., r - p i LTONA COX j High School Representatives Chosen By Legion Auxiliary lor Girls' State Cedar City High School representatives repre-sentatives to Girjs' State were announced early this week. The girls chosen were: Pat Gardner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gardner; Lyona Cox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Reid Cox, and Sandra Wood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer H. Wood. Girls' State Is a project of the American Legion Auxiliary Department De-partment of Utah. The girls will journey to Logan where they will spend one week, June 3 to 10, organizing a state government. The girls are to be sjwnsored by the Ladies of Elks, B P W Club land the American Legion Aux- I iliary. I The girls were chosen for their scholastic ability and extra cur-ricular cur-ricular activities. ActiTitiet Listed In Pat's sophomore year she was an active member of the Thespian Club. She took part In the school play, "Heaven Can Wait," and debated In the speech festival at St. George. As a Junior Jun-ior she has been a member of the Pep Club, vice president of the Thespian Club. She was In the school play, "The Remarkable Incident at Carson Corners." She again took part In the speech festival at St. George. Pat lies participated In several assemblies, assem-blies, helped decorate for the Junior prom, and took part In the I girls' intramurals. In both her sophomore and Junior years she took part In trie dance review. She is an active member of the L D S Church and will will graduate grad-uate from Seminary as an 'A" student. Rich US. Life Lyona has had a. high school life rich with experience. This year she has been solo cornet and assistant drum major in the high school band. In these positions posi-tions she has participated In the Rascher concert and a band tour to Las Vegas. As an officer in the F H A she attended that organization's state convention. In Salt Lake City. Taking a dramatics dra-matics class has given her the opportunity of being in the high school play, and she was also student director of a one act play which was selected In the regional contest to go to the state where It received honorable honora-ble mention. She has been a member of the Seminary student council and will graduate from the Seminary as an "A" student this year. Besides her school. activities' ac-tivities' she is an active member mem-ber of the L D S Seventh Ward as Junior Sunday School chorister choris-ter and and assistant organist for Sacrament meeting. Extracurricular Affairs Sandra has been active in extra ex-tra currlcular activities throughout through-out her two years of high school. In her sophomore year she was Sophomore Sox Spree assembly co-chairman, a member of the Thespian and F H A clubs, and she was active in many assemblies. assem-blies. As a Junior she has been program, chairman in the Girls' Organization, reporter in F H A. Junior Prom dance chairman and Sweethearts' Ball assembly co- chairman. Sandra was the first-place first-place winner in the American Le-gion Le-gion Oratorical contest here and contested with some other schools. She Is a member of the' Suah Kanne and Thespian Clubs, has been in several assemblies, and was in the school play, opera, and dance review. Along with her school activities Sandra has been active in her church, as a member of the ward choir and In speech, music and dance festivals. festi-vals. She will graduate from Seminary this year as an honor student. |
