Show Linda Knight Named Junior Division Essay Contest Winner ' V f. ' ' j b i y. . ( ? . . ' i V. v- I ) 1 LINDA KNIGHT Miss Linda Knight, daughter! of Pres. and Mrs. Howard D. Knight, was winner in the junior jun-ior division of the annual Ameri-; Ameri-; canism Essay contest sponsored ' locally by the American Legion Auxiliary. The contest was held in connection with the auxil-j auxil-j iary's Americanism assembly i program on Washington's birth- day, at the Parowan High , School. This is the second year that I Miss Knight has been a winner ' in such a contest and her win-i win-i ning essay will be entered in the District Seven contest which comprises com-prises all Legion posts in Iron. Washington, Kane, Beaver and i Garfield counties. J Nellie Taylor is president of the sponsoring Auxiliary unit and the Americanism committee commit-tee of the unit is composed of Eulalia T. Orton. chairman; Ed-na Ed-na S. Hatch, and Maggie Page. In the assembly program last Friday the winning essay was read by its writer. Other features of the program were an oration by Alrd Merkeley, a reading by Norma Lee Mercer and several numbers by the high school music mu-sic department.. These consisted of a trumpet duet by Phillip Bay-les Bay-les Jay Graff and Jerry Robin-son. Robin-son. two number by the band ensemble; a trumpet solo, David Topham; a vocal sol by LaNoir Asay, a base horn solo by Wayne Merkeley and a number by a girls' sextet. Invocation was by A C. Hatch and benediction by 1 Principal Max Dalley. |
