Show Stake Presidency Formed! At Quarterly Conference LDS Institute Designated Ward; To Become Stake Affiliated A host of releases and sustaining action to fill the vacancies va-cancies were made at the Cedar Stake Quarterly Conference Confer-ence held at the Cedar Stake House Saturday and Sunday, Sun-day, Feb. 23 and 24. The conference was attended by three representatives of the general Church Authorities. In attendance at-tendance were Elder Henry D. Moyle, member of the Council Coun-cil of the Twelve; Presiding Patriarch of the Church, Eld-red Eld-red G. Smith, and Stewart B. Eccles member of the Church Welfare Committee. Released from the stake presidency were Kumen S. Gardner as first counselor, and Dr. Paul K. Edmunds, second sec-ond counselor. Both cf these men have served in their respective capacities ior approximately approx-imately nine years. Both were members of the stake presidency under President David L. Sargent. Sar-gent. President Elwood J. Corry will continue to serve as stake president. presi-dent. Sustained to replace the two counselors were R. Reid Cox. as first counselor and Paul E. Felt, second counselor. Cox has served as a member of the stake high council for nearly 17 years and was the senior member of the group at conference time. Felt is director of .the LDS Institute of Religion and active in a number num-ber of stake organizations. New Ward Formed Also at the conference at a special meeting at the L D S Institute In-stitute a new ward was formed. It will be called the Cedar Ninth Ward and will be com posed of out-of-town students attending at-tending the College of Southern Utah. Elder Moyle presented the plan to the Institute members, who have been organized as somewhat of a branch In the past. The plan was accepted by the students and a- bishopric to govern the group was sustained. The new bishop of the Ninth Ward is Dr. Joseph M. Flllerup of the CSU staff with counselors counsel-ors Paul Dahl and James Spencer. Spen-cer. As a ward in the Cedar Stake records of students attending the Institr.te will be sent to the ward and activities recorded In the sarre manner as others. It Is understood un-derstood that the ward will be on an inactive basis during the summer months. Others Released Six men were also released from the Stake High Council at the conference. Released were Mr. Cox, Vernon A. Jones. Arth ur C. Brown, Albert Albertson, Truman V. Rollins and Theron Ashcroft Sustained to fill these vacancies were A. Elihu What-cott, What-cott, James Heywood, Moroni B. Langford, Newel F. Wasden, Ver-nee Ver-nee C. Frame and Lorln C. Miles. A reorganization of the presidency presi-dency of the High Priests quorum quor-um was also affected. Released were W. They included the First quorum of the Cedar Third Ward, the Third quoruir of the Second Ward, and the Sixth quorum of the Fifth Ward. Released from the First quorum quor-um were Waldon Isom, president; presi-dent; Jay Overson, Max II. Wood and Sherman Frazer. Sustained to fill the offices were Jay Over-son, Over-son, president, and Richard Church and Lehl Kerry Jones as counselors. New officers of the Third quor-ume quor-ume Include Willard C. Jones, president; Haymer D. Morris and Cleo Petty, counselors. Released from the presidency were Lloyd Heyborne, president, and Jones and Morris, counselors. Although the Sixth quorum of Elders has been reorganized for over three months, the new presl. dency was not sustained until the conference on Sunday. Serv. Ing as president is Franklin Holmes, Merrill Howell and Craig NVplune, with Marlon Lcany as secretary. Released were President Presi-dent J. Kent Heaps and counselors counse-lors Holmes and Ray T. Stapley. Other releases effected at the conference included Gary O. Da-vis, Da-vis, secretary of the Seventh quor-urn quor-urn of Elders; Vernon A. Jones, chairman of the stake penealogl-cal penealogl-cal committee; Paul Dahl. assist-ant assist-ant Stake Sunday School Superintendent, Super-intendent, and Zona S. Wood, first counselor in the Stake Primary Pri-mary Association. No replacements replace-ments for these positions were made at the conference. j |
