Show LIVING IN ESCALAI1TE VALLEY By Elaine Harker VALLEY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MEETING Aug. 19, the valley development develop-ment committee met at the community com-munity building. The committee chairman, Niels Nielson, vice chairman; Alex Wood, secreary; Margaret Wood, and members, Bryner Wood, Joe DelVecchlo, Allene Smith, John M. McGarry, Robert Reeve, Marian Woolsey, Wlllard Randall, and Leon Bow-ler, Bow-ler, discussed various possibilities possibili-ties for valley development. Among the subjects discussed were a charcoal kiln, drive In, cafe, motel, tourist cabins, a business bus-iness for placing retired couples or singles, and the proposed road side park. There Is a need to obtain ob-tain water for this park and many people in the valley will lose some when they prove up on their water rights. Donations for this purpose would be greatly appreciated and is for the benefit bene-fit of everyone. John McGarry was named as chairman of the advertising commute com-mute and will choose his members. mem-bers. Bob Reeve volunteered to Investigate the possibilities in the field of motels and tourist cabins, while Alex Wood will look Into the possibilities of a charcoal kiln business. LIONS CLUB The Lions Club held its Ladies Night Saturday, Aug. 22, at the El Ksralante Hotel. Lydia Harri-u, Harri-u, who the club is sponsoring for the Miss Iron County contest, and her parents, were special guests. Other special guests were In attendance from St. Gzcrz- The Lions Club will make a float for the fair. Appointed as chairman was Warren ?latt with Niels Nielsen as advisor. The club will sell hamburgers and sausages at the fair, also. In charge of this project Is Tony Alberto. Al-berto. The money obtained will be used for public service projects. pro-jects. Friday, Aug. 28, for the Miss Iron County contest FAIR NEWS Tuesday night, Aug. 18, there was a parade committee meeting. The committee discussed the various var-ious entries from the Valley. The Women's Club will enter a float In the fair this year. Mrs. McGarry has been appointed as chairman. Craig Clark, In charge of valley val-ley agricultural exhibits, has announced an-nounced that the agricultural products for exhibit should be In by Saturday morning. If those who have Items to exhibit cannot can-not take them to Parowan, they may take them to Craig Clark's home before 7 a. m. Saturday. Everyone Is encouraged to enter any agricultural products. There are rules to be followed and can be found In the fair books which Phyllis Wood has. If there are any questions contact Craig Clark, he'll be "glad to help." The women of the valley are encouraged to enter canning items, flowers, twwinsr. fancy work, vegetables, and other projects. SCHOOL NEWS School In the valley will begin officially on Aug. 31, at 8:30 a. m. The teachers this year will be Leda Jolley, first and second grades; Stan Holt, third and fourth grades, and George Jolley, fifth and sixth grade. The Newcastle students will have a bus while the valley boys and girls will be picked up in the morning by the Enterprise school bus. There will be another bus to take them home after school Is dismissed. Mrs. DelVecchlo DelVec-chlo will make two trips from Beryl every morning for those going to Cedar City and again for the valley elementary students. stu-dents. NEWS IN BRIEF Dewey Godard has been in Salt Lake City for a check-up. Thursday night there will be a Wildlife cabinet meeting at 8:30 in the recreation hall. The Wildlife's fair float will be discussed dis-cussed as well as the preparations prepara-tions for the pheasant hunt and the problem of obtaining water rights for the road-side park. The Bookmobile from the Utah State Library will return again on Sept. 4. Howard Force, who has been visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Force at Modena, returned return-ed to his home in San Bernardino, Bernardi-no, Calif. His wife and family will stay with his parents until he returns on Sept. 3. Mrs. Alfred Force went to Las Vegas Friday to attend a business busi-ness and professional women's club meeting held at the La Vista Vis-ta Club. She returned Saturday The Pioche and Caliente Business Busi-ness and Professional Women's clubs entertained the Cedar City club Sunday afternoon at Cathedral Cathe-dral Gorge ln Nevada.
