Show Annual Livestock Show Will Begin Thursday Nineteenth annual staging of the Southern Utah Livestock Show, one of the top junior livestock live-stock show events of the entire West, will begin on Thursday, Sept. 3, and run through Saturday, Satur-day, Sept 5, according to show manager D. C. Schmutz. Exhibitors from throughout the southern part of the state and some parts of Nevada and Arizona Arizo-na are expected to arrive with their animals beginning Wednesday, Wed-nesday, Sept 2 at which time the complete facilities of the new livestock pavilion on North Main Street will pe put to use for the first time. All animals will be in place by 9 a. m. Thursday and the permanent perman-ent facilities for the show will be shown off for the exhibitors and the general public. Final details de-tails on the final addition of the permanent structure on North Main are being rushed to completion com-pletion for the event, which will Include a permanent auction ring, permanent pens, proper facilities fa-cilities for handling animals and rest room facilities. Entry Incentive It is the first year that the en-tire en-tire livestock show will be held Indoors and the added incentive of the outstanding permanent headquarters is expected to help draw one of the largest number of exhibitors in recent years. Judging of all swine, sheep and cattle exhibited will begin at 10 a. m. Thursday, the opening open-ing day of the show. Champions and reserve champions for the three divisions of fat stock will be chosen before the day is over. At 8:30 a. m. Friday the 4-H Club judging contest will get under un-der way and at 10 a. m. the fitting fit-ting and showmanship contest will take place. Another highlight of the n-nual n-nual show, the anr".2' Southern Utah Ram Sale, will be held on Friday afternoon. A total of 208 Tarns have been assigned to the sale and more will undoubtedly be added before the show opens. The entries Included registered studs, registered and range pens of Columbia, Panama, Rambouil-let Rambouil-let Hampshire, Suffolk - sheep breeds, and also Rambouillet-Targhee, Rambouillet-Targhee, Columbia- Rambouillet and Suffolk-Hampshire crosses included. Banquet Plans The annual awards banquet will be held Friday evening at Hotel El Escalante with the Kl-wanls Kl-wanls Club in charge of arrangements. arrange-ments. Speaker for the evening will be Dr. Wm. Bennett, head of the department of agriculture at Utah State University. Special musical entertainment will be furnished by Heber Lund. Presiding at the program will be Mr. Schmutz, show manager. Highlight of the evening, the presentation pre-sentation of awards, will be by Wallace Sjoblom, president of the Southern Utah Livestock Show Association. Master of ceremonies cere-monies for the evening will be Klien Rollo, Klwanis Club president presi-dent Climax of the show, of course, will be the annual auction sale of fat stock exhibited at the show. The auction will begin at 10 a. m. Saturday, Sept 5 and continue until all animals are sold. . Good Prices Expected Record prices have always been paid by buyers at the show. Last year - grand champions brought the following prices: $1.00 per pound for the grand champion steer, exhibited by Reggie Hansen of Sallna, and purchased by Paul Hafen of St. George; $3.50 per pound for the Grand Champion Lamb exhibited by Kim Larson of Ephralm and purchased by the Bank of St George, and Lunt-Heywood paid $1.20 per pound for the grand Champion hog exhibited by Marsh Mar-sh Vandenberghe of Cedar City. Deadline for application to exhibit ex-hibit at the show Is not until Sept. 1 so total number of fat stock is not known at this time.
